Last weekend, I shot my final roll of 35mm Agfa Ultra 100… I’m going to miss this film dearly; its response curve in warm light with skin was just beautiful… It wasn’t the sharpest or most grainless film, it was just one of those things. I liked the way it looked. Now, as I review these final images and appreciate the colors and tones, I’m getting a little teary-eyed. I miss you, Agfa Ultra…
(Note: Agfa Photo filed for bankruptcy on May 27th, 2005. Around that time, I bought and hoarded as much Agfa Ultra as I could. I started with over a dozen rolls, and shot one or two rolls a year until now. Agfa as a company is still alive, and maybe someday someone will buy the rights to manufacture and sell their film products, but until then, Agfa film is, well, like gold- in limited supply. Every now and then a few rolls of this or that can be spotted on eBay, with 2005 expiration dates and questionable storage. If anybody ever spots a roll or two, my birthday is January 17th!) :-D
I guess now I’ll just try something else. I hear that Jose Villa shoots Fuji 160S and 400H, so I’ll be trying those… And I’ll always love Velvia, but that’s really a landscape photography film…
Anyways, Here’s an ode to my all-time favorite color negative film. These were from the last two rolls. I used a Nikon FM2 and Nikon 24mm, 50mm, and Tamron 90mm lenses.

(A recent engagement shoot. This was the one I was really excited about, with the top secret location in the So Cal area…)
(I shot mostly digital at this photo shoot, so these three are it! I’ll try and blog a few more when I get a chance…)
(Next, a few frames from the recent SoCal Photog Shootout, in Temecula…)
(Thanks Crystal for being our model!)
(I know the wardrobe doesn’t really fit the scene, but we were just playing around with good light. Plenty more images to come!)
(To finish it off, a wedding last weekend at Strawberry Farms in Irvine.)
