Wedding Photos From Estancia La Jolla

Every wedding I’ve shot so far this year has been right up my alley. THANK YOU, brides and grooms, for finding me and letting me photograph your big day! I’m always thrilled when a couple talks about making time to shoot portraits when the light is perfect.

The rest of 2010 is looking awesome too. Not as many weddings as years past, (TYVM, economic disaster!) but literally every single wedding is going to have some awesome outdoorsy portraits that I’m pretty excited about.

Waiting on some film to come back from last week’s engagement session, then I’ll blog that, but in the meantime here is a wedding from Estancia La Jolla. Ironically even though I live in OC, I know the La Jolla area like the back of my hand, and it was really weird to photograph a wedding just a hundred yards from the pharmaceutical research labs where I worked in construction, years ago. (UCSD, Scripps, etc.) So thrilled for the opportunity to shoot a wedding day this beautiful…

Let me know if you’d like to know what went into a particular image. Or if you just have a favorite or a critique. Joy always tells me that I have such weird taste, and my favorite images are never other people’s favorite images. So, when I say I’d love to hear people tell me which images they like, (and why?) …I’m not just fishing for compliments. If you want to just say “nice photo!” that’s cool, but it doesnt’ pay my bills ya know? I’d love any input on why a photo works, or doesn’t, etc… Thanks! :-)

Take care,
=Matt=

April 20, 2010 - 10:21 PM Katie - Matt these are just stunning. You are truly an artist. The one of the pearl necklace is amazing, as is the one of her holding her bouquet with her dress swept around her. Your black and whites are so dramatic.

April 20, 2010 - 10:31 PM Hanssie Trainor - Why do I love that second shot? Cause it's sooo different than what you usually see out there. It's dramatic and simple, but beautiful in its understatedness.

April 20, 2010 - 10:58 PM Lindsay C - These look beautiful Matt! I especially love the light in the first bridal portrait! Pretty Pretty Pretty!

April 21, 2010 - 12:17 AM Emily - really nice use of existing light again, as usual

April 21, 2010 - 3:53 AM Tracy Grant - The light you find is always so lovely! I am struck by the full dress photo and the bench photo. The are intimate and the black and white really lends to their depth.

April 21, 2010 - 5:10 AM Suzanne Thompson - Love the unique angle of the pearls...one can feel the movement of them moving toward the brides neck. Also like the one of the groom dipping the bride...love late afternoon sun.

April 21, 2010 - 10:40 AM Jennifer - Matt, they are all beautiful, as always... I love the one with the stairs, and the bit of light shining on the couple... the natural spotlight on them really makes them pop out from an already pretty and interesting background...but I love them ALL! You make it look so stinking easy!

April 22, 2010 - 10:44 AM Courtney - I love the pearl shot, and the one on the bench is oh-so-romantic. Great shots all-around!

April 22, 2010 - 9:12 PM Christina Vawter - Matt, I LOOOVE the pearl necklace shot - it is ART and belongs on a great big canvas!!! :)

April 23, 2010 - 10:57 AM Larry Reeves - Great photos, Matt! Do you purposely use the Zone System? A lot of your images look that way...and I like it!

April 23, 2010 - 12:14 PM sandy - i love them all.. but the second to last pictures is sweet. you've captured a moment..a tender bit of heaven..with the look on her face..him singing ..the soft sparkly lights..its all so very dreamy..and romantic :)

April 26, 2010 - 3:02 PM Melissa Brandman - LOVE the shot of the necklace. Great light and just an awesome angle. Great work!

April 27, 2010 - 9:35 AM Patrick Pike - Great job finding light and angles at the venue! I'm enjoying your artistic style.
